On January 26th 2013 the Second Annual Elly Awards were held to celebrate the underground electronic music scene in Stockholm Sweden. The evening consisted of an award ceremony followed by an after party in the same location. During the after party, officers of the Stockholm policed department entered the venue and forced the event to end. They confiscated all cash and alcohol found on the premisses, arrested the promoter and others they determined to be responsible for the event on numerous charges . It is still an open investigation so we are not sure what we can or should say about the specifics of the case.
What is safe to say is this is another example of the ongoing struggle between the Swedish justice system and the underground electronic music scene across the country. This has been going on for almost 20 years. Many people have lost their businesses, reputation, freedom, friends, peace of mind and faith in the system.
This EP consists of tracks donated to The Anti-Hibernation Project by Nima Khak, Dennis Zagreus, Ossian Reynolds, Ida Matsdotter and Ty'sTyle. It is an attempt to help cover the expenses which are still unpaid due to the confiscation of the money from the event. You can buy the music as a donation at the price you feel comfortable with.
The Elly Awards were created as a way to celebrate the joy, connection, warmth and sense of community felt when people have choices and alternatives they help to create. Variety is one of the things that makes life great. Any authority which believes it will bend or break people into abiding by one set of rules is fighting a loosing battle.
Help continue the struggle. Donate and download The Elly EP. Having options should always be an option...
